Reminds me of an Oddworld baddie for some reason. Nice shading, your workflow sounds very involved....

It seems a lot when it's written out but as I'm doing it it's all split second choices. The Stylus is mightier than the pen.

This looks awesome, I would love to see your alien Yojimbo character fighting this thing.
Keep up the good work.

So how does your process go? A line work layer, a neutral background layer, and then using your brushes on a top layer? Just curious since each person I know approaches it different than the next.

This piece I actually laid down a quick sketch than worked the silhouette and than I painted it in gray scale adding some shell line. I than layered in color. Then I used my little trick where I set up colored light sources and select the figure and use the gradient tool to shoot in color. I also dropped in some texture. Than painted the hottest highlights over the whole thing. That's the way I've been coloring things lately. Sometimes I just uses whole colors and work the values into it but I've separated the two in hopes of refining them without each process getting in the way of the other one. All of this is different than my cut style where I set a universal color tone and than gradient in cuts of solid color ala animation. I'm just trying everything and anything right now.
